Ebikes without cable locks can only be docked at Lyft Bikes stations. Our ebikes with cable locks are hybrid and allow you to dock at any Lyft Bikes station or use the cable to lock to any bike rack within the service area. Lyft Bike members get discounted ebike prices.

Pay as you ride

Annual and monthly members who choose an ebike will pay $0.17 per minute with no unlock fee. Non-members will pay $0.49 per minute with a $1 unlock fee. These fees help cover the additional costs of batteries and charging. All per-minute ride prices are rounded up to the nearest minute.

Bike Share for All members will pay a discounted rate of $0.05 per minute for ebike trips, with all per-minute fees capped at $1.

For annual and monthly members, the per-minute ebike charges are capped at $2 for rides that start or end in neighborhoods currently less connected to transit.

Map 1: Parking Fee Waiver Zone

The pink area shows where you can end your ride without paying the $2 out-of-station parking fee.

You still need to lock your bike to a bike rack. Use the cable lock to attach your ebike to a bike rack within the service area. Don't just leave the bike on the sidewalk or lean it against a wall, a pole, or a tree — even inside the pink zone. You could get a $25 parking violation fee if the bike isn't locked to a bike rack in the service area.

Map 2: Member Ebike Fee Cap Zone

Good news if you're a member: starting or ending your ride in this pink area caps your ebike fee at $2 per 45 min ride.

This is a different pink zone than Map 1. Being in this zone is about your ride cost, not about parking rules. It does not waive the parking fee — check Map 1 for that.

Ebike Parking

Dock all ebikes at any Lyft Bike station for free.

Parking a cable-locked ebike outside a docked station using a cable lock will cost $2.

This fee will be waived if the bike is parked near a station with no empty docks available, locked to a virtual station, or locked to a bike rack in our out-of-station fee waiver zone. Refer to Map 1 above for details.

Ebike Parking Violations

Parking violations include:

• Locking the ebike to itself
• Locking it to trees, private property, or any other structures
• Blocking pathways, sidewalks, or ramps

Any of these will cost a $25 fee. 

You could also be charged a $25 fee for parking your ebike outside the service area.

Virtual Stations

Virtual Stations are designated parking zones at existing, publicly accessible bike racks. These are designed for our ebikes with cable locks. We've partnered with the SFMTA and other agencies to expand parking options beyond the physical Lyft Bike docks.

Parking at a Virtual Station is simple:

1. Find a Virtual Station: Check your Lyft Bike app for the designated Virtual Stations on the map; These stations will include the words “Virtual Station” in the name when you tap a station icon in the app
2. Park at a Public Rack: When you arrive, secure your ebike to one of the public bike racks within the marked zone in the app
3. Use the Cable Lock: Complete your ride by manually engaging the ebike's built-in cable lock around the rack
4. $2 Fee Waived: By ending your ride at a Virtual Station using the cable lock, the standard $2 out-of-station (OOS) fee is automatically waived

Pedal Assist Preference

In instances where there are no classic bikes at a station, riders can rent one of our silver ebikes in “classic mode.” This means that you can rent this ebike for no extra charge, but there will be little to no e-assist for the ride. 

To make this choice, scan the QR code. Then, you’ll see a screen. Choose full assist or low assist there. You can set your Pedal Assist Preference in your app by going to Profile > Bike pedal assist preference. You may also see a checkbox in the app asking if you would like to save your pedal assist preference on future rides. If unlocking with a bike key instead of the app, you can set your preference by logging into your account on a web browser.

This option is not available for our original model ebikes.

Throttle ebikes

We’re adding a throttle to some of our ebikes! You can use the throttle to engage the e-assist without needing to use the pedals. Just press down on the throttle to get started, and lift the throttle up to disengage. Squeezing the right brake lever also disengages the throttle.

The throttle assist can go up to 15mph, and will cost the same as all other ebikes. The throttle will not work when using low assist.

Look for a decal on the rider’s right handlebar grip to identify a throttle ebike.

Using the throttle is not required to ride these bikes - feel free to use pedal assist instead!
